Our laboratory focuses on the cellular responses to xenobiotics, foreign substances of synthetic or biological origin, and their activation of nuclear receptors, which we believe constitutes an additional level of “innate” protection and helps to maintain intestinal mucosal homeostasis. We seek to understand how targeting these systems may protect against aberrant mucosal inflammation and pathogenic tissue remodelling in the context of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
